An excellent shot, considering it was one of your firsts! Nice clean background, it's just the focus is a tad off.

what is the best way to make sure that the focus is as good as it can be? i mean, i usually take one shot, refocus, take another, and repeat for a couple of shots, but id like to know if there is a foolproof way to get perfect focus everytime...

Well, I'm just starting out on butterflies, they're usually hard to photograph just right (at least for me). I always use a tripod, and what I try to do is get the lens exactly parallel to the plane that the butterfly is on, so the entire subject is sharp.

Regarding focusing, well, I use the live view on my camera which some in very handy because I can zoom in up to 10x and manually focus until it's just right. And of course, get several shots if I'm able to. I find it hard to get perfect focus using just the viewfinder, but some people are really good at that.

On a side note, I almost always use manual focus for macro shots because I usually find that the Af does not focus on what *I* want to focus on.

Haha, well I'm in the same boat. I'm currently trying to sell some gear and stuff that I don't use to buy better gear.

i really really want a macro lense...and speaking of which, do you have any suggestions for a reasonable lens that will still allow me to take great pictures?cuz i have seen that some macros can get really really pricy...
